We Lost The 1.5ºC Battle. We Don't Have To Lose The War

Yesterday, the United Nations Environment Programme confirmed what many climate activists, renewable energy wonks and EV owners feared it would: that we, collectively, have failed to act in a meaningful enough way to prevent global temperature rises due to anthropogenic climate change from going above 1.5ºC when compared to pre-industrial levels. In a stark, frankly depressing report, it warns we will exceed a 1.5ºC rise in global temperature in the near future, and that short- to mid-term climate consequences are likely to cause irreversible losses and permanently changed conditions. Today, (or rather, in a video recorded yesterday), Nikki discusses her reaction to the report, the gut reaction to want to give up — and how it's important that we do the exact opposite, doubling down on our efforts to make a cleaner, greener, safer, smarter and more equitable world in which we all have a place.

Yeah, of course we have. We (humans) collectively have done almost nothing to stop it. The only hope we have is that solar continues to expand at a crazy rate. And batteries continue to get cheaper and last longer. So maybe one day they’ll replace ICE vehicles and the energy they use will be clean. If that can happen soon enough we’ll have a chance to reverse global warming. I think solar is our only hope.
