While Whonix does not come with the same protection Tails offers for cold boot attacks, you can modify your set up to add similar protection offered by Tails for anti-forensic defense.

Including Forensic Based Analysis Such As Cold Boot Attacks - Where RAM memory is forensically analyzed to retrieve sensitive application data, including potentially, encryption keys. The "cold" in cold boot, references technique of freezing memory to retain as much viable forensic data as possible for analysis.

One way Tails Amnesiac Linux OS Defends against cold boot attacks is by overwriting RAM With Random Data Upon Shutdown (or pulling out usbstick), Defending Tails Users Against Cold Boot Attacks - Includes Recommendations And

Whether you are a researcher, traveling journalist, banker, lawyer, or financial analysis, options such as Tails / Whonix can provide valuable protection - essential in this age of AI, APT threat actors, and scams.

Even if using Tails or Whonix, this does not automatically make one "invisible" online. Most user compromise / deanonymization comes from their practices - what you share, will be shared.

If sharing personally identifying / fingerprinting information, linking directly to you - this makes you identifiable.

We know (example: stories like pegasus) our hardware can potentially be turned against us when malware strikes.

If our devices acquire said malware, a few key pieces of hardware could be EASILY turned against us (and others, but this is most common):

• Our microphone can be turned into a hidden bug in our home.

• Our webcams can be used a surveillance cameras to watch our every move when the laptop lid is open.

• Our WiFi / bluetooth devices send out radio beacons, sharing everything from signal strength to narrow down location, all the way to details on our pattern of life (bssid tracking). And if compromised, could even allow for other types of data / compromise smuggling.

Without the above hardware devices, without networking, our devices are much less easily tracked - almost invisible... though there are other types of unique fingerprint, as we will continue covering on this channel.

FOR SECURITY BENEFIT:

This also brings into play great security benefits - so much in targeted attacks rely upon prediction of target behavior / accessibility.

From finding devices to compromise, to opening remote backdoors. Your hardware network / wireless devices can easily be turned against you.

Without networking / wireless access, attacks are much less likely (but not impossible if you give someone physical access / other means).

By removing these, we take greatly reduce accessibility for the 'bad guys'.

I mention X220T, as Both Models Are Very Closely Related /Of Similar Design.

Whether The Task Is Changing Hardware, Cleaning, Or Any Other Task Requiring Taking Apart One Of These Beloved Thinkpad Models.

Personally, I find X230T among my favorite of all computer models ever made. The one on video is one I bought for myself, and I'd like to share tips / tutorial for disassembling it, to help others.

This model is more challenging than similar era thinkpad models to repaste the CPU, partly as the heatsink is upside down, under the motherboard.

This means we have to take the entire thing apart today - and hopefully benefit other X230T / X220T tablet laptop convertible owners in the process.

Thinkpads of this era were truly built to last. Even over 10 years later, my thinkpads are still running very strong, and up to every task from word processing, compiling, watching videos, even editing and rendering video content on this channel.

All done from similar build of Thinkpad of this era - using the same exact i5-3320M CPU as this X230T carries.

In my case, I have an i2pd router running on a remote Raspberry Pi server - and the browser shortcut fully automates itself, loading i2p traffic from this raspberry pi single board computer.

You can instead optionally use any other i2p compatible hardware. From Pinephone to Librem5 Linux phones, to an older desktop or laptop, to brand new servers.

I2P is another vital network for protecting our security, privacy, and anonymity. I've been using this network a few years, and decided to create the desktop shortcuts + scripts to help those who like the idea of a browser set up for I2P, that works similar fashion to Tor Browser.
